A Brief History of CAMP GLEN GRAY, Mahwah, New Jersey “Uncle” Frank Fellows Gray Uncle Frank, believed to be one of the founders of Scouting in the United States, and the namesake of our camp, was born near Syracuse, New York on December 31, 1863. He taught at military academies for boys on Long Island and upstate New York. He had relatives in Scotland that he visited regularly, and likely came into contact with the early development of Scouting by Lord Robert Baden-Powell in Glasgow, Scotland. A Town Within a Town
There’s a new town in town, and it goes by the name of the Ramapo Mountain Lakes, Inc. Technically, it’s not a town but a lake association of Oakland homes; but, the breadth and magnitude of its disputed membership makes it bigger than dozens of towns in New Jersey. The borders of the town within a town would make proud any gerrymandering politician, though the majority of the disputed members live somewhere in the vicinity of Oakland’s Crystal Lake or Mirror Lake. On the other hand, some homes within walking distance are not members, and those who would need to drive to one of the lakes are listed as members. A…

Many Were Injured-Badly, and the Families in the Village Were Panic-stricken – Boiler First Exploded. OAKLAND, N. J., Sept. 12. – Three explosions occurred at the works of the American E. C. and Schultze Powder Company at this place at 1:30 this afternoon. Five persons were killed, two probably fatally injured, and many others badly hurt. The first explosion was the blowing up of a boiler, which caused the two others. Smokeless powder is manufactured at the works, which are…
